Next Step STEM specialises in GCSE physics and chemistry tutoring, helping students transition smoothly into the advanced science syllabus for GCSE. Our tailored programs focus on core concepts, exam techniques, and building confidence for academic success.
The ideas behind the idea - supported by the science of learning
- Interleaving and the forgetting curve. Having heard something before means you are more likely to remember it when you revisit it a second time. The effect is more pronounced with longer "leave" times
- Long summer holidays are notoriously bad for learning. When students go back to school in year 9, they will be accelerated quite dramatically into GCSE content. We help fill the gap in both time and learning
- Setting. Many students are "set" for their GCSEs in year 9 and we want to ensure they get into the set which most accurately reflects their abilities
- Personal experience. Having taught at many leading independent schools, we have been struck by the lack of structure in year 9's learning habits. We present clear, logical methods for revision, learning, and problem solving.
- Resources. Many students get to their GCSEs and begin preparing exam resources. We want to bring this into the Summer before they even begin their studies so they don't waste valuable revision time when it counts before the exams.

Vic studied Physics and Philosophy at Oxford and then worked for 10 years in the City. She returned to Oxford for her PGCE in 2020 and has been teaching in Independent Schools ever since. Vic is passionate about the value of pre-learning, study skills, and academic stretch and is currently studying for a Masters at UCL in the Psychology of Education.

Angelina is a Chemistry graduate and has taught Chemistry in Independent Schools in both the UK and Europe for the last 10 years. Prolific tutoring and experience working in commercial laboratories means she has a wealth of knowledge of both the application of Chemistry and how best to teach it to small groups as well as larger ones in school.
